Storage Size Guide

Answer a few quick questions to find the right storage unit size for your needs.

Choosing the wrong storage unit size is one of the most common and costly mistakes during a move. Rent a unit that's too small and you'll need to upgrade mid-lease (paying move-in fees again). Rent one that's too large and you're paying for empty space every month — at an average of $1-2 per square foot/month, that adds up quickly.

Storage units come in five standard sizes: 5x5 (25 sq ft, about the size of a closet), 5x10 (50 sq ft, like a walk-in closet), 10x10 (100 sq ft, half a garage), 10x15 (150 sq ft, three-quarters of a garage), and 10x20 (200 sq ft, a full single-car garage). Our guide recommends the right size based on your home type, number of bedrooms, and whether you have large furniture like sectional sofas, dining sets, or exercise equipment.
